Ardmore’s Trae Wilkins Sets New Course Record at Lake Murray State Park Golf Course

A new men’s course record was broken at Lake Murray State Park on Sunday

OKLAHOMA CITY — Trae Wilkins set a new men’s course record at Lake Murray State Park Golf Course in Ardmore on Sunday.

Wilkins, who is local to the Ardmore area, shot a 62. He is a seasoned golfer, winning the 2013 Class 3A individual golf championship when he was a senior at Plainview High School.

Wilkins had taken a hiatus from golf after high school, only recently picking up his clubs again in 2021.

“This summer I just started playing every chance I got,” Wilkins said.

Wilkins plays at the Lake Murray State Park course every Sunday with his father-in-law. During his record-setting round, Wilkins had three eagles and five birdies.

At 10 strokes under par, Wilkins beat the previous record by one stroke. The previous record was 63, set by Bryce Newton in 2019.

This is the second record broken at Lake Murray State Park’s golf course this year. High school student Jenni Roller broke the women’s course record when she shot a 62 during the Class 3A Girls State Tournament in May.

Lake Murray, the state’s largest state park, offers golfers an 18-hole course with views of rolling hills, magnificent oak trees and a natural waterfall. At the course there is a pro shop and a practice range, and lessons are available for groups or individuals who want to sharpen their golf skills.

Golfers of all skill levels can enjoy the sport at some of the most scenic locations in Oklahoma. To book a tee time or learn more about golfing at Oklahoma State Parks, visit TravelOK.com/State-Parks/Golf.
