Celebrate Family Month at Oklahoma State Parks
On Tuesday, October 31, 2023, Governor Stitt officially declared November as Family Month in Oklahoma. To help families spend more time together, the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department (OTRD) is partnering with the Governor’s Office to offer free admission and waived parking fees at select state parks during the weekends before and after Thanksgiving.
“Tourism is powered by families, and there’s not a better place to spend time with your loved ones than at an Oklahoma State Park” said Shelley Zumwalt, executive director of OTRD. “We’re excited to partner with the Governor’s Office to celebrate Oklahoma Family Month, and I encourage everyone to visit a park and spend quality time outside with those we are most thankful for.”
Along with free admission, the participating parks have many exciting family-friendly activities planned for these weekends. Whether it’s a hayride through a scenic trail or a guided hike underneath the beautiful fall foliage, there is something for every family to enjoy.
I am thankful for Director Shelley Zumwalt’s leadership, and eagerness to uplift Oklahoma families during Family Month,” Governor Kevin Stitt said. “Families are the very foundation upon which we build our lives, and a state park is the perfect place to grow that family bond by spending time together in nature.”
