Oklahoma Route 66 passport adds new stops, features familiar favorites in 2024

Hundreds of visitors have completed the passport since it started in 2020

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department recently released its updated Oklahoma Route 66 Passport, presented by the City of Stroud, featuring new local stops as well as long-time community favorites for travelers to enjoy.

“Oklahoma is home to over 400 miles of Route 66, making it the nation’s longest driveable stretch of the iconic highway,” said Shelley Zumwalt, Secretary of Tourism, Wildlife & Heritage. “The Route 66 Passport gives visitors an interactive roadmap to historic businesses, shops and cultural landmarks in local communities along the Mother Road. It also plays a key role in ensuring our state makes a lasting impression on national and international travelers, especially as we approach the Route 66 centennial in 2026.

Since its launch in 2020, hundreds of visitors from across the United States and even other countries like Poland and French Polynesia have completed the passport.

New stops featured in the updated passport include the Cherokee Nation Anna Mitchell Cultural & Welcome Center in Vinita, the historic Circle Cinema in Tulsa and the Elk City Chamber of Commerce in Elk City.

The passport is divided into three sections — Eastern, Central and Western. Stops include local restaurants, shops, museums and parks. Upon completion of each section of the passport, participants can pick up a piece of a Route 66 magnet at one of the nine Oklahoma Tourism Information Centers. Once all three sections are completed, participants receive a collectible coin commemorating Route 66.
