OTRD Announces Identification of 51 Underutilized Agency Vehicles in Fleet Modernization Initiative

OKLAHOMA CITY (August 7, 2023) – Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation (OTRD) Executive Director Shelley Zumwalt announced today great progress in the state’s ongoing fleet modernization initiative announced by Governor Kevin Stitt in February.

In total, OTRD has identified 51 underutilized vehicles, saving taxpayers an estimated $450,000 a year.

“The call to modernize our fleet gave us the opportunity to rethink how we’re able to utilize our resources to better serve Oklahoma taxpayers,” said OTRD Executive Director Shelley Zumwalt. “As an agency, we’re always striving to be as fiscally responsible as possible, while finding innovations in our processes. I’m proud of the work we have done, and I’m excited to turn in the keys to 51 vehicles to Governor Kevin Stitt.”

During the review of its fleet, OTRD was able to identify dozens of vehicles that could be submitted for surplus due to their age, lack of use or high cost of repairs.

“Our effort to reduce Oklahoma’s vehicle fleet has already saved taxpayers millions of dollars,” said Governor Stitt. “I’m thankful for Shelley’s leadership as we work to cut down on unnecessary resources and hold our agencies to even higher standards.

In February, Governor Kevin Stitt and State COO John Suter announced an initiative to modernize Oklahoma’s vehicle utilization. At the direction of Governor Stitt, OMES Fleet Management partnered with state agencies like OTRD to conduct a complete review and accounting of the State of Oklahoma’s vehicle fleet.
